Easy To Learn
Enjoy Going To Dances For beginners, tap, line dancing, west coast swing, ballroom,
ballet, jazz, pointe by point, square, shape-up, Texas two step and more...
Learn some of the hottest dance moves you've seen in
music videos, award shows, and concerts from the likes of Britney
Spears, 'N Sync, and Jordan Knight from this 55-minute video. Darrin
Henson moves with limbs of taffy as he teaches the energetic and
innovative moves he choreographed for the biggest celebrities. He breaks
down the patterns into individual moves, then quickly puts the moves
together, and then you perform the pattern with video clips from the
stars for whom it was choreographed.
Great fun! Unless you're blessed
with instant recall, though, you'll need to rewind segments of the tape
frequently to learn the moves. And unfortunately, Henson cues his own
"right" and "left" instead of the viewer's (the
opposite, because you're facing him), so you have to continually reverse
his directions in order to mirror his moves. Recommended for limber,
experienced dancers--coordination required
Now you can learn the hottest moves of your favorite
artists from the man who created it all! Darrin's Dance Grooves features
some of today's biggest stars performing Darin's incredible routines,
including: Britney Spears' "Crazy," NSYNC's "Bye Bye
Bye," and Jordan Knight's "Give It to You." Plus, you'll
get the exclusive steps to NSYNC's "Digital Get Down" as
performed live on tour! BONUS! You'll also get a never before seen, in
depth look into the secrets of the popular street technique known as
"locking and popping." Information you can't find anywhere
else!
Darrin Henson is one of the world's leading choreographers, and
now he's showing you how to dance like your favorite artists! Darrin
breaks down the moves step by step and allows you to progress at your
won pace. Whether you're a seasoned professional, an aspiring dancer or
just want to bust a move at home, Darrin's Dance Grooves is perfect for
you.
The Wiggles, that wacky outfit wowing kids from Down
Under, welcome preschoolers for a lively, loopy musical fiesta on their
sixth release, Dance Party. In addition to Murray, Greg, Jeff, and
Anthony, Oz's answer to the Fab Four, chiming in on this 15-song charmer
of a dance- and sing-along are the usual wiggly suspects--Henry the
Octopus, Wags the Dog, Captain Feathersword, and the remarkably
light-on-her-feet hostess of the party, Dorothy the Dinosaur.
Along with all the fancy footwork, expect the frenetic
pace of all Wiggles offerings (nobody's attention span is apt to be
challenged by a 15-segment, 40-minute video), but also expect a less
polished production than in previous titles. The gang's unfamiliar hair
styles and other telltale clues bear the trappings of an early
performance.
Which in no way dilutes the fun-for-all delirium. In
fact, the goofier-than-ever gags and graceful child dance troupes
featured on a couple of numbers here propel this tape into top-shelf
Wiggles territory. Songs include "Can You Point Your Fingers and Do
the Twist?," "Wags the Dog," "Five Little
Joeys," "Di Dicki Do Dum," "I'm a Cow,"
"Do the Flap," "On Your Holiday," "Hat on My
Head," "The Magic Bag," "Brown Girl in the
Ring," "Georgia's Song," "Our Boat Is Rocking on the
Sea," "Nicky Nacky Nocky Noo," "Dorothy's Dance
Party," and "The Big Red Car."
Bruce McDonald's wry adaptation of a W.P. Kinsella novel
is an engaging, touching story about an awkward passage into manhood and
love for an 18-year-old Indian metalhead on the Kidabanesee Reserve in
Ontario. Silas Crow (Ryan Black) is a drifting young fellow dragging his
feet about entering a school for auto mechanics.
While loosely entertaining the idea of writing, Silas
unprofitably kills all his time with a thickheaded buddy, Frank
Fencepost (Adam Beach), and watches his old girlfriend, Sadie Maracle
(Jennifer Podemski), grow away from him as she takes up native issues
with admirable commitment.
A visit by Silas's older sister, Ilianna (Lisa
LaCroix)
(with her new, white-and-uptight husband reluctantly in tow), plus the
simultaneous reappearance of Ilianna's old flame, ex-con Gooch (Michael
Greyeyes), and the unpunished murder of a native girl by a white thug
set off a series of events culminating in redemptive acts of love and
honor.
Big themes, yes, but McDonald (Highway 61) has wisely
chosen to emphasize the charm of his characters, make sport of spiritual
clichés and Indian chic (there's a funny bit in which Silas gets
Ilianna's husband drunk and introduces him to a bogus animal guide), and
allow the cruelty of white justice against natives to speak (often
comically) for itself. --
Fresh, street-smart, hip hop choriography brought to you
by Culture Shock's professional dancers for a cardio-workout experience!
Culture Shock Dance Troupe's inc., is a professional Hip Hop dance
company and non-profit youth outreach organization committed to
promoting, supporting and cultivating Hip Hop dance artists across the
globe.
Their mission: "We are a troupe of
individualsl,
who through the power of music and dance, cultivate self-worth, dignity
and respect for all people.
Exotic dancing is much more than "dancing
sexy", it is learning how to reach deep within yourself, find your
own inner beauty and grace, and combine it into a sensual movement.
Students begin the journey through the Art of Exotic Dancing, and
immediately begin the process of self discovery.
Through Exotic Dancing, you will learn how to fully
empower yourself, connect with others, boost your self-confidence and
self-esteem, become a role model, attract people to you, overcome your
fears of self expression, let down your guard, and discover new ways to
spice up your relationships.
Class instructor, Laurie Conrad, will emphasize areas
such as eye contact and body language and will help you master the
execution of a variety of dance movements (walking sexy, 4 types of hip
rolls, floorwork, and the striptease using a man's oversized shirt).
Paula Abdul's fans will really have fun with this
45-minute, high-energy dance workout. Even the warm-up is energetic and
jazzy. Abdul teaches two dance routines. She introduces a 16-count
pattern slowed down, then speeds it up until you're up to tempo, adding
on until you've got a routine. Don't expect teaching expertise from
Abdul--she cues the moves, but never explains how to do what she's
demonstrating. Just watch and follow.
You may need to pause this video a lot at first to learn
the moves--she doesn't repeat the slowed-down moves enough to catch
them--but after you get them, it becomes pure fun. She is assisted by
two of her tour dancers and a crowded class of what she calls
"ordinary people," though they're mostly young, good-looking,
and very fit. The production is colorful and flashy. The constantly
changing camera angles are distracting and sometimes annoying, because
they hinder you from watching the feet to learn the moves.
You'll enjoy the playful cool-down to Village People's
"YMCA," led by the males in the class. An abdominal segment
and stretches finish the workout. Coordination and rhythm required.
Swing (a derivative of Lindy Hop) is a truly original American dance.
Developed in the late 1920's in the ballrooms of Harlem, the dance swept
the nation, crossing social and racial lines with unprecedented
popularity. Today's resurgence of this soulful dance has enriched the
lives of young and old. This video will provide the basic tools needed
to enjoy this social dance for years to come.
An Introduction to Six-Count Swing begins with the fundamental tools
of leading and following. Without those skills, you cannot give or
respond to the signals that result in great moves. After mastering just
a few exercises in leading and following, we focus on the basic footwork
of six-count swing. With that under our belts, we jump right into the
basic steps and turns of swing, introducing 17 moves and combinations,
each with clarity and plenty of time to practice.
To add to the experience, we asked some great Chicago musicians to lay
down some of their original swing tunes for the video.
At the end of the tape (and with some practice), you will be able to
lead or follow anyone else who has completed a basic swing class, as
well as look and feel like a polished team with your dance partner.
To enhance learning, Julee and Chris recommend Big City Swing's
"Ready to Lindy Practice CD". This custom CD was produced with
the beginning Swing dancer in mind, with 6 tracks of swingin' tunes,
arranged from slowest to fastest, so that dancers can build their skills
gradually, while listening to great music.
From the Director Julee Mertz, founded Big City Swing in 1997. Through
performances and instruction, her company strives to inspire everyone,
from the trained dancer, to the dance enthusiast, to experience the
thrill of Lindy Hop. Julee also has a list of film and TV credits,
including Early Edition, Oprah, Jenny Jones(as a performer, not a
guest), the Kahlua White Russian commercial, and the film Betaville,
opening this fall.
Chris Yee, founder of Swing Out Chicago, has taught workshops around
the world, including the premier Lindy Hop Camp in Herrang, Sweden.
Chris began dancing West Coast Swing 7 years ago, but was quickly swept
into the world of Lindy Hop two years later while watching video clips
of the famous Rhythm Hot Shots. Since that time, Chris pursued the dance
in full force studying and dancing throughout Europe in the summers, and
throughout the US the rest of the time. Chris is famous for his dynamic
style, amazing creativity, and his strong connection with the music and
his partner. His teaching style is grounded from a social dancing and
musical perspective. It focuses on a strong technical and partnering
foundation that provides for the unlocking of creativity and freedom on
the dance floor.
Both based in Chicago, Chris Yee and Julee Mertz have been teaching
and performing together throughout the Midwest for the last year and a
half. Together, they elevate each of their classes' understanding of
leading and following. They are known for their mastery of the classic
steps and lines of Lindy Hop, as well as their rhythmic variations and
playfulness on the dance floor.
For those who can't get enough of those Barney songs,
here's a made-for-video show packed full of song and dance. The story
line is oh-so thin as Barney and his friends sing 27 songs in only 56
minutes, so Barney is usually singing or introducing a new song.
For anyone who has been watching the decade that Barney
has been on the airwaves, most of the songs are Barney standards:
"Mr. Sun," "The Airplane Song," "Baby Bop
Hop," and "I Love You." They are mixed in with all-time
favorites "Itsy Bitsy Spider," "A Camping We Will
Go," and the like.
Many of Barney's original kid friends return looking
much older and wiser. No big landmark production here, just a
"greatest hits" of Barney tunes that should have fans singing
and dancing around the tube for nearly an hour.
Cal Pozo's Learn to Dance in Minutes - Party Dancing
Cal Pozo wasn't kidding when he titled his video series
Learn to Dance in Minutes. Here he breezes through six couple dances and
two line dances in 40 minutes; that's about five minutes per dance. Men
will find this video most useful since the footprint diagrams teach
their part, followed by a male dancing his steps alone. Next a female
dances alone and then the couple dances together.
If imagining the footprints in reverse is not a
problem for female viewers or they have a male partner handy with whom
to practice, this won't be a concern. Pozo and his dancers ably
demonstrate the lindy, jitterbug, polka, fox trot, mambo, cha-cha, and
waltz (as well as basic steps, such as the box step, leading up to
these).
But the company is at its best when demonstrating the
group dances: the macarena and the electric slide. In a terrific display
of variety, the dancers run the gamut from a stiff older gentleman to a
mini-skirted young woman willing to boogie down.
Going to a wedding, a bar mitzvah, a New Year's
celebration...But you don't know how to dance? Need a crash course? You
got it! Party Dancing will get you ready in minutes. In minutes, you'll
know how to do a slow Foxtrot, a Jitterbug, a Waltz, even the Cha Cha,
In minutes you'll know the Electric Slide and the Macarena, the two line
dances that get everyone on the dance floor.
You'll know how to lead or follow your partner
without fear of knocking knees or stepping on toes. People will
think you've always known how to dance. Over half a million people
have learned to dance with Cal Pozo's super easy, super fast, Award
Winning three step learning method: Step One: You follow animated
footprints that "walk" you through each of the steps. Step
Two: You follow an instructor whose back is to the camera.
This "Reverse View" acts as mirror image
of everything you're supposed to know and do. Step Three: You see
the step being executed by a dance team who give you pointers on
leading and following to give you a polished appearance in minutes.
No more tapping your fingers on tabletops while everyone else is
tapping their feet on the dance floor.
Even the most confirmed "left-footed"
folks get right on track with Cal Pozo's Learn To Dance In Minutes
The British countryside has seen few raves like this
one--our favorite Teletubbies are shown dancing through Teletubby Land
with a few of their friends and, of course, their multiple rabbits. The
"Stepping and Standing Dance" leads things off, followed by
the "Walking Dance," "Running Away Dance,"
"Splashing Dance," and so forth (thankfully, we're spared from
"Riverdance").
Of course, all this dancing--and even some clips of real
children performing a few jigs--can wear a little thin on the patience
of any child or parent. While younger children may want to perform some
of the moves themselves (the "Tip Toe Dance" looks
semi-appealing), everyone else risks becoming bored. The Teletubbies
work best when, just like the typical preschooler, they all act
differently, performing unique tasks (check out the effective Here Come
the Teletubbies).
On this video, they're all line dancing. There is some
genuine weirdness for more mature Tubby aficionados: a vacuum cleaner
starts dancing and a computer-animated bear does a convincing Grateful
Dead-inspired number. But for most everyone else, it can't beat the TV
show.
Over the hills and far away, Teletubbies come to
play...and are taking America by storm! Meet Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa
and Po, four technological babies who love each other very much, and who
children around the world have embraced.
This landmark preschool series is designed to address
the physical, social and cognitive needs of the very youngest children.
The rhythm, pace and routine of Teletubbies are designed to encourage
children to make their own predictions and know the satisfaction of
seeing those predictions fulfilled. Teletubbies -- a celebration of
play!

Manahi Kewene, Mountain View, CA Dec.,1997 Ok people, if you're
looking for a really good instructional salsa video, this is it!!! Just
prior to the Thanksgiving holiday I was on the hunt for an all around
GOOD video to teach the basics of salsa as well as more advanced moves.
I started dancing salsa about two years ago but was curious about what I
could learn from a video. I looked around to see what my options were
only to find that there is not a lot out there. Since I was looking
purely for salsa, I purchased the first two, which... read more
